Biography

Mbheki Ndlovu, known by his stage name Mr Joe aka The Electric Pantsula, is a prominent DJ and producer hailing from Esikhawini in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa. From a young age, Mr Joe was deeply immersed in music, which became a constant part of his life. This passion led him to start producing music in high school, setting the foundation for his burgeoning career.

In 2011, Mr Joe began releasing music with local South African labels and achieved his first international success the same year with tracks like “Natives In You” and “Masses Illusion” on New York’s Afro Rebel Music. He also remixed “The Energy” by Oscar P and legendary French DJ/producer Rocco, which featured MJ White and was released on Open Bar Music.

Seeking to enhance his skills, Mr Joe studied music production at the Soul Candi Institute of Music in 2012. His career reached a significant milestone in 2016 when two of his songs, “Vector Groove” and “Dharma,” were included in Watergate Records’ 21st compilation, curated by South African star Culoe De Song.

Mr Joe continued to rise in the music scene with his 2018 release, the Lost EP, led by the single “Lost In My Dub,” which gained support from renowned DJs like Black Coffee, Dixon of Innervisions, and Culoe De Song, who signed the EP to his label, De Song Music. He also released the Air Force EP on Offering Recordings, a label founded by Boddhi Satva, and toured extensively to build his reputation as a future tastemaker in Afro house music.

In 2019, Mr Joe featured on the German label Get Physical’s compilation, Africa Gets Physical Vol 2, with his track “Silent Prayer,” which received acclaim from DJs like Âme of Innervisions. In 2020, he made his debut on New York’s legendary King Street Sounds / Nite Grooves with the Heavens Walk EP, marking another milestone in his career.

Mr Joe has also founded an event company and label called LYTUP, hosting monthly events in Johannesburg’s Newtown area, creating vibrant and energetic experiences. Influenced by the music of the 80s and 90s, his unique sound blends house with techno elements, garnering support from prominent DJs such as Carl Craig, Green Velvet, Kenny Dope, and Hyenah.

His latest release, “Jah Fire Burn,” has been a hit in clubs, showcasing his ability to create music with a global appeal. With a distinct and evolving sound, Mr Joe continues to shape the future of Afro house music, leaving a lasting impact on the scene.

Starting in June, the second Saturday of each month at 8pm, you can catch Mr Joe right here with his brand new LytUp radio show, a fantastic showcase of live event recordings, fresh mixes sprinkled with unreleased gems from the man himself.
