Global sensation Ed Sheeran joins the Amapiano wave

The sound of Amapiano which was birthed in the townships of the Gauteng province has taken the London music scene by storm.

The music of emancipation enjoyed by the youths of South Africa has recently become the inspiration for mainstream artists and tracks.

Global sensation Ed Sheeran’s newly released single Bad Habits dropped an Amapiano remix yesterday featuring major South African pop piano producer/ DJ Kooldrink.

Kooldrink is the producer behind Tyla’s hit song Getting Late which has surpassed 1 million streams and did 300,000 streams in one week.

By pairing Ed Sheeran’s falsetto vocals with the llog drum which is a key characteristic of the Amapiano sound. This is a fusion we didn’t see coming but is definitely welcomed as Amapiano is pushed into the mainstream through an authentic cross-cultural and continental collaboration.

Amapiano is not new to many in the UK house scene but with the inclusion of notable UK artists such as Ed, there is sure to be a wave of new followers on the horizon.

During the birth of any new sound collaborations are duly welcomed however as Amapiano grows it is important that the orgiators aren’t left behind.

These collaborations are a chance for South African artists to enter the top 10 charts globally and hopefully make history.

Ed Sheeran is not alone as Jorja Smith also recently released an Amapiano track called All of This with Guilty Beatz unfortunately due to the exclusion of South African talent on the track this has not been received very well.

One thing for sure, it’s an Amapiano summer and this is just the beginning for the immersive sound.
