‘Everybody wants an afro mix’ – Anane Vega

‘…creating this film was more than just a project’.  In times where we had a travel ban, a lockdown and last but not least a worldwide stop of any artistic activities in public the Rise team, based in Berlin Germany, used the time to produce a documentary about their favourite music genre.’  Their homegrown documentary “Above & Beyond – The Global Rise of Afro House“ is ready to be seen on screen.

The AfroHouse community has been performing under the radar for too long.  For them, it was imperative to show the world what that scene has to offer.  They joined forces with director Naomi Philipps and a production team who gave everything – AND more; making sure the most important aspects of this so versatile and open-minded universe were covered.

The 60-minute international music documentary traces the origins of Afro House and explores its promising present and future, as it takes the audience on a journey across several continents.  From Germany to South Africa, from Angola to Portugal, from Kenya to the USA, and beyond: the documentary showcases key players of the AfroHouse music scene and looks at the many challenges left ahead on its way to the world stage. Created for an international audience, the documentary is as much an introduction to the world of Afro House as it is a celebration of its global impact and heritage.  AfroHouse is here to conquer and to stay. And its growing global network of musicians proves it.

The team are grateful to all those involved, making their little miracle happen.  A big thank you goes to you guys:
